The effective assessment of these multiple needs is particularly difficult without the use of a standardised method that allows for a comprehensive and systematic assessment. In this context, the Camberwell Assessment of Need for the Elderly (CANE) has emerged as a Person-centred needs assessment tool. Its theoretical framework is the bio-psycho-social model, allowing for a holistic, multidimensional and crossed approach (including the perspectives of the elderly person, informal caregiver and responsible technician) to the problems of the elderly person in the social, medical, psychological and environmental areas.
