Accommodation in Halls of Residence

The halls of residence are spread across U.Porto’s three main campuses and run by the Social Services of the University of Porto (SASUP). The halls accommodate mainly Bachelor’s, Master's and Integrated Master's Degree students who have had to move away from their family/primary residence to pursue their studies, whether due to socioeconomic conditions, distance from home, or transport issues.

Scholarship students are therefore prioritised for allocation in the halls. Doctoral students and researchers may also be allocated a place should there be any available.

The halls have single and double rooms as well as some bedrooms with a double bed with either private or shared bathrooms. Some halls of residence also have a kitchen or kitchenette, a study and common room, and a self-service laundry.

Private Residence Accommodation

Private halls of residence for university students have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering additional services such as weekly cleaning. Light, water and heating bills are all included in the rent.

Apartments

There is plenty of accommodation for rent in Porto. Usually, students will live in a shared apartment with other students.

You can find listings for rental apartments/houses on real estate websites, in newspapers or through real estate agencies. Rent and conditions vary according to location.

It is common practice to pay two months’ rent upfront (the first and last month’s rent) and you may need a guarantor(s). Rental contracts are usually six months long.

Accommodation in Halls of Residence

There are limited places allocated to mobility students in six of the halls of residence of U.Porto. Requests must be submitted to the International Office and then communicated to the Social Services of the University of Porto (SASUP) and the hall in which you will stay.

The halls have single and double rooms as well as some bedrooms with a double bed with either private or shared bathrooms. Some halls of residence also have a kitchen or kitchenette, a study and common room, and a self-service laundry.
