International Students - How to apply?

The moment you decide to study at U.Porto, you embark on a unique life experience which will open doors for you in any part of the world.

We will help you find your way to us. But first, it is important for you to know that the application process for the University of Porto depends on your nationality and the type of course/study cycle you would like to attend. Tell us who you are and we will guide you.

National Student or Equivalent
  • You are a Portuguese national or you are from another country in the European Union (EU).
  • You are a dual national: you are a citizen of an EU Member State (other than Portugal) and a State outside the European Union (for example: Brazil) and you choose to apply as an EU national.
  • You have lived in Portugal continuously for more than two years as of 1 January of the year in which you wish to enter higher education (in this case, the time of residence with a study visa does not count).
  • You are a relative of Portuguese or EU nationals, irrespective of your nationality.
  • Your parents have been living in Portugal continuously for more than two years, uninterruptedly as of 1 January of the year in which you wish to enter higher education (in this case, the time of residence with a study visa does not count).
  • You are a beneficiary of the statute of equal rights and duties as of 1 January of the year in which you wish to enter higher education, attributed according to the international treaty between the Portuguese State and the State you are from.
  • You are attending a Portuguese higher education institution under a mobility programme or exchange agreement.
International Student
  • You are neither a Portuguese nor a European Union (EU) national.
  • You are a dual national: you are a citizen of an EU Member State (other than Portugal) and a State outside the European Union (for example: Brazil) and you choose to apply as a third-country national.
  • Neither you nor your parents have lived continuously in Portugal for more than two years as of 1 January of the year in which you wish to enter higher education.
