Postgraduate training used to be a privilege, but today it is almost an indispensable condition to compete in the labour market. At U.Porto, you will find a range of 2nd Cycle (master's degree) and 3rd Cycle (doctorate) programmes which cover most areas of knowledge. Our faculties and research centres provide study and research support structures, as well as teaching and scientific staff which will help you to significantly improve your skills.
Application to U.Porto's 1st cycle (Bachelor's Degree) or Integrated Master's Degree courses is done through the National Call for Applications and Admissions in Public Higher Education (general and special regimes), or through the special calls for application promoted by the University.
In postgraduate study cycles (master's degree courses and doctoral programmes), application requirements are defined by each faculty. You can find more information in the Applications page or by visiting the Office for Access to Higher Education (GAES-UP), located in the Rectory building.
No. In addition to the general national admissions regime for Public Higher Education, U.Porto has several calls for applications and special regimes open to applicants with different qualification criteria, in conjunction with the Directorate-General for Higher Education. The numbers speak for themselves. According to the latest studies carried out by U.Porto's Employment Observatory, the employability rate of U.Porto graduates who completed their course more than five years ago is higher than 80%.
Additionally, more than half has never been unemployed after entering the job market. U.Porto's different employment support structures provide employability services for our recent graduates.
The University and its faculties follow the professional progression of their graduates by promoting job/training/research opportunities, providing career management services or by carrying out employability surveys promoted by U.Porto Employment Observatory.
Of course! Every year, the University promotes more than 300 Continuing education courses. Many of them are available outside working hours and are especially dedicated to candidates who are already in the labour market. These courses are shorter, more flexible and accessible than degree-awarding courses, but they benefit from the same U.Porto teaching quality. Would you like to open new horizons by learning Arabic or Japanese? What about testing your management skills in one of the most prestigious MBAs in the world? It's hard to choose!
