Once a privilege within reach of the few, post-graduate training is nowadays an almost indispensable condition for competing in an increasingly demanding job market. At the University of Porto, you will find this added value in a range of 2nd Cycle (Masters) and 3rd Cycle (PhD) programmes covering practically all areas of knowledge. You will also find it in our faculties and research centres through excellent teaching and research support structures and benefit from contact with a teaching and scientific body that will help you to maximise your abilities.
The application to the 1st cycle courses (Bachelor's Degree) or Integrated Master's Degree at the U.Porto is made through the National Competition for Access and Admission to Public Higher Education (general regime and special regimes) or through the different special competitions promoted by the University. For post-graduate study cycles (masters and doctorates), the conditions of application are defined by each faculty of the University. You can find more information in the Applications area or at the Access to Higher Education Office (GAES-UP), located in the Rectory building.
No. In parallel with the general regime of access to Public Higher Education, the U.Porto, in articulation with the General Directorate of Higher Education, offers a set of special calls and regimes aimed at the public with varied qualification conditions. These include people over 23 years old, holders of Technological Specialisation Courses (CET), holders of a Degree in an appropriate area, holders of other Higher Education Courses (TOCS) or holders of a Degree in Medicine. Learn more about these opportunities in the Applications area or at the GAES-UP.
The numbers speak for themselves. According to the latest studies carried out by the U.Porto Employment Observatory, the employability rate of U.Porto graduates who completed their course at the University more than five years ago is over 80%.
Moreover, more than half have never been unemployed after entering the labour market. The various employment support structures at the University of Porto that support the professional insertion process of our recently graduated students contribute greatly to this success.
Assuming its role as a bridge to the labour market, the University and its faculties also monitor the professional progression of graduates by promoting employment/training/research opportunities, providing career management services, or by carrying out employability surveys promoted by the U.Porto Employment Observatory.
Of course. And the answer is multiplied by the more than 300 courses that the University promotes every year in the field of Continuing Education. Shorter, more flexible and accessible than degree courses but benefiting from the same pedagogical quality that is the DNA of teaching at the University of Porto, many of these programmes operate in an after-labour regime and are primarily oriented towards the needs of those who are already integrated into the labour market.
