Studying bacterial genomes: from infection control to finding new molecules

Sequencing and analysing bacterial genomes provides a complete and detailed view of the bacterium's genetic material, including species identification, resistance genes, virulence, relevant genetic elements, molecules with antimicrobial activity, among others. However, one of the main challenges of this methodology is converting raw sequencing data into results that can be analysed by health professionals without bioinformatics knowledge.

As this is an initial bioinformatics course applied to the study of various bacteria, this training aims to provide these professionals with knowledge, skills and competences in analysing bacterial genomes, contributing to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, as well as identifying molecules of biotechnological interest, which are fundamental to advances in the fields of medicine, microbiology and biotechnology.
