Turnitin is a tool that verifies the originality of academic work based on text comparison.
The submitted documents are compared with different references in Turnitin's database (web pages, student work, journals, newspapers, publications, etc.). A similarity report is created describing the similarities found between texts. It is used as a detailed analysis of the content that might not be authentic.
This software is available in two ways, with different purposes:
- Moodle U.Porto – for students to submit their work;
- Institutional Authentication (AAI) – for U.Porto staff and researchers who want to verify their scientific work.
Access via Moodle U.Porto
- Log in to the Information System.
- Go to your personal page and choose the "Moodle {academic year}" option on the sidebar.
- You will be automatically forwarded to Moodle U.Porto.
Access via Institutional Authentication
- Visit the Turnitin Platform page.
- You will be forwarded to FCCN's Institutional Authentication page, where you should indicate your home institution – "University of Porto".
- Authenticate yourself using Institutional Authentication (AAI).
- From that moment, you will be logged in to the Turnitin platform.
Watch the explanatory video about how to access Turnitin using institutional authentication and how to create an assignment.
