VPN - Ubuntu (FEUP Manual Configuration: PPTP)

Through the VPN (Virtual Private Network), you can establish a secure connection from the outside to U.Porto's internal network and thus access institutional resources and services. This service is available to users whose SIGARRA status is "Active" or "Attending". Access to the VPN must be done using your Information System credentials.

Configuration

  1. On Ubuntu 19.04 desktop, select the icon "Show Applications";

  2. Type "Settings" in the search box and select the respective option to access them;

  3. In Ubuntu's settings, select "Network" and in the VPN connections, select the icon to add another VPN connection;

  4. On the "Add VPN" window, select the option "Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol" (PPTP);

  5. On the next window, "Add VPN", configure according to the following options:

    Name: VPN FEUP PPTP, in this example;

    Gateway: feup-vpn.up.pt, in this example - consult the Table of VPN service addresses of U.Porto[ 1 ];

    User name: insert your Information System user in the format up[123456789]@[institution].up.pt[ 2 ]

  6. Select "Advanced";

  7. Select the option "Use Point-to-Point Encription" (MPPE);

  8. Select "OK".

Connect to VPN

  1. On the "Network" window, select the "Off" button in the VPN connection created to establish the connection.

  2. In the "Authenticate VPN" window, when requested, insert your password of the Information System;

  3. Select "Connect";

  4. If the connection is established, the button will be "On" and the VPN icon will appear in the notifications area;

  5. To establish a connection in the future, you can select the network connections icon, select the VPN connection and confirm by selecting "Connect".
