Professor Manuel de Oliveira Marques Awards, awarded every two years, aim to distinguish thesis projects and doctoral theses that have distinguished themselves by their contribution to thematic and methodological innovation in corporate finance.

Professor Manuel de Oliveira Marques Awards, awarded every two years, aim to distinguish thesis projects and doctoral theses that have distinguished themselves by their contribution to thematic and methodological innovation in corporate finance.

Two prizes will be awarded:

Award for the best Ph.D. thesis project in Corporate Finance for 3,000 Euros.

Prize for the best doctoral thesis in Corporate Finance, worth 2,000 Euros.

Manuel de Oliveira Marques, former president of Metro do Porto and STCP, was an economist and professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto posthumously distinguished with the FEP Career Award 2014.

The following are eligible to apply for these awards:

Students of Ph.D. programs of Portuguese universities or Portuguese students of foreign universities who have not yet started preparing their thesis or have not done so for more than six months and who are authors of a thesis project in Corporate Finance.

Recent Ph.D. graduates who have obtained a Ph.D. degree from a Portuguese university or recent Portuguese Ph.D. graduates who have received a Ph.D. degree from a foreign university and whose theses fall within the area of Corporate Finance.

Applications are open until 30 November 2023 via email to [email protected].

Public Notice sets the application requirements, and the application for each of the awards will be made through:

The submission of an original thesis project developed by the author as a Ph.D. student on the topic of Corporate Finance;

The presentation of a doctoral thesis approved two academic years before the date of the Call and a scientific article extracted from said thesis on a topic of Corporate Finance and of which the applicant is the author or one of the co-authors.

The prior reading of the Call is mandatory.

  • Prof. Dr. João Carvalho das Neves | Full Professor at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon and Director of Associação Mutualista Montepio Geral;
  • Prof. Dr. Gilberto Ramos Loureiro | Associate Professor with Aggregation at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho.
  • Prof. Dr João Filipe Monteiro Pinto | Assistant Professor at Católica Porto Business School;
  • Prof. Dr. Jorge Bento Ribeiro Barbosa Farinha | Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics of Porto;
  • Prof. Dr. Miguel Augusto Gomes Sousa | Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of Porto.
