Aiming, in general, at stimulating and supporting research and advanced training activities in education, this space was especially created, in 2007, with the objective of organising and divulging the vast scholarly production of Stephen R. Stoer, as well as hosting his important bibliographical and documental collection, donated to CIIE by his family.
Stephen R. Stoer (1943-2005), full professor of Educational Sciences at the University of Porto, prolific researcher and distinguished scholar who contributed to the consolidation of the Sociology of Education in Portugal, was the main driving force behind the creation of the Educational Sciences group at the University of Porto, founder and first director (1988-2004) of CIIE and of the peer-reviewed journal Educação, Sociedade & Culturas.
CRSS gives access to a range of other publications, a number authored by CIIE researchers, in different supports, available for local consultation, as well as a reading and working area, where laptop computers can be used.
CRSS bibliographical collection currently includes about 3000 titles in hardcopy, all of which are searchable in the FPCEUP Library catalogue (Collection "CRSS").
CRSS staff delivers specialised support and assistance to students and staff on document search and scientific dissemination.
