These processes are studied in healthy populations and in natural models in which cognition and affect/emotion may be altered (for example, typical development and normal aging, neurodegenerative diseases, schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy), applying multiple techniques (electrophysiology, neuroimaging, hormonal assays, neuropsychological and behavioural assessment).
Active since the 1980’s, the Laboratory pioneered the study of psychophysiology in the country, and also participates in translational and applied research, in collaboration with groups from Medicine/Life Sciences (study of electrophysiological markers) and Biomedical Engineering (development of new hardware and computational applications for neurophysiology).
