When we built the UP Doctoral Careers resource centre, we felt that an important part of the puzzle was missing: the connection between U.Porto’s PhD candidates and holders and other key players in their career development. To this end, the Doctoral Careers Community was created, specially designed to (re)connect you with your peers who may be in different professional contexts, cities or perhaps countries.
Have you thought about what other PhD candidates are doing in their research work? And what about where is that PhD holder that you haven’t seen around your faculty? Wonder what she/he might be working on?
This group could be the ideal place to (re)connect with other U.Porto’s PhD candidates and holders.
JOINT THIS COMMUNITY!
Get to know your peers through this network and keep up to date with all the initiatives developed within Doctoral Careers, both our own and those of our internal and external partners.

The University of Porto offers access to an innovative platform for connecting to the U.Porto community - Connecting U.Porto, which aims to create a wide network of information and contact between graduates, students, teachers and technicians at U.Porto. But that's not all! Within Connecting, we've created a Career Community Group - UP Doctoral Career Community - where you can:
- Get in touch with your peers
- Create spontaneous mentorships
- Access exclusive career opportunities (such as jobs, internships, visits and meetings with professionals and recruiters, collaborations in companies and organisations, among others)
- Share information that you consider useful for the personal and professional development of the members of this group
- Find information on initiatives designed especially for you

The Community is also on WhatsApp!
If WhatsApp is one of your preferred means of communication, join the group by asking us for the membership link.
Here you'll be able to get in touch with your peers, simply to arrange a coffee or to clear up any doubts related to careers with a PhD.
Introducing the ‘PhD Careers Listening Tour: Get Together and Share’ sessions, a safe space to address your ideas, perspectives, aspirations and questions about your career development. These sessions take place in a space for open dialogue about the challenges, achievements and needs encountered throughout your PhD journey and career.
With the aim of promoting career development and fostering a stronger sense of belonging to the community, these informal, small-group conversations are an opportunity to talk to U.Porto PhD holders already integrated into the labour market, who can provide valuable information about the experiences and challenges they have faced throughout their careers.
Each new session is promoted via our social networks, but also by email, so stay tuned. Check out the video below about the PhD Listening Tour!
Note: The PhD Listening Tour is an activity co-financed by the Portuguese State, through the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, under the Mental Health in Higher Education Programme - University of Porto, under the name BAMBUP: Boost, Meet & Bloom at University of Porto.
The Get Together is an initiative organised in collaboration with the Doctoral Careers Ambassadors that provides a unique opportunity to (re)connect with PhD candidates and holders from various courses, faculties and countries. It is an activity that takes place every semester.
We know that the PhD journey can often seem lonely, which is why events like this are so important. Get Together offers an opportunity to make connections, share experiences and support each other through an afternoon full of good music, food, activities and enriching conversations about career paths or other topics of interest.

UP Doctoral Careers is an initiative stemming from the PhD Career Design project, initiated in 2021. It involved a technical team comprising members from various units within the University of Porto, including the Talent and Career Centre, Work Psychology Consulting Service, FEUPs Talent Unit, ICBAS Student Support, Employability and Alumni Office, I3S, and the Teaching and Learning Laboratory. Additionally, it was supported by the Portuguese funding "Skills for a Next Generation U.Porto" (Upskilling U.Porto) under POCH-I2-2022-01 Post Covid Competition - Skills for the Future in Higher Education”. Now, it is run by contributions from representatives of U.Porto's Organic Units, Research Centers, PhD candidates, holders, advisors, course directors, companies, and institutions. Furthermore, it is supported by the EUGLOH network and the DocTalent4EU project.
