The Council of Representatives is responsible for:

  • Organize the election procedure and elect the director, in accordance with the law, the statutes and the attached regulations;
  • Approve its operating regulations;
  • Approve amendments to the statutes;
  • Appreciate the actions of the principal and the executive board;
  • Propose any initiatives it deems necessary for the smooth running of the institution;
  • Decide on the creation, merger, transformation and extinction of FCUP's research units, by an absolute majority of the members in full exercise of their duties, after hearing the scientific council;
  • Decide on any other matters submitted to it by the director;
  • Carry out any other duties provided for by law or the statutes.

The Director is responsible for

  • Representing FCUP in the Senate, before the other UP bodies and to the outside world;
  • Appointing the deputy director in accordance with article 18.3;
  • Chairing the executive board; Directing the services;
  • Approving the calendar and timetable for teaching tasks, after consulting the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council; Ensuring compliance with the decisions of the central collegiate bodies;
  • Ensuring compliance with the laws, statutes and regulations;
  • Exercising disciplinary powers delegated to them by the rector;
  • Drawing up and submitting to the council of representatives the proposals for FCUP's strategic plans and the action plan for the four-year period of its mandate, in consultation with the scientific council; Proposing to the council of representatives the general guidelines for FCUP in the scientific, pedagogical and financial spheres; Drawing up and submitting to the council of representatives the proposals for the budget and activity plan, as well as the activity and accounts reports; Proposing to the council of representatives the creation, transformation or extinction of FCUP's organic sub-units, in consultation with the scientific council, without prejudice to paragraph f) of no. 1 of article 12; Proposing to the council of representatives the creation, transformation or extinction of FCUP's organic sub-units, in consultation with the scientific council, without prejudice to paragraph f) of no. 1 of article 12. Submitting to the council of representatives proposals for organic regulations relating to FCUP's services;
  • Proposing to the rector the opening of competitions for teaching and scientific research careers, on the proposal of the scientific council; Proposing to the rector the creation or alteration of study cycles, after hearing the scientific council and the pedagogical council; Proposing to the rector the maximum values of new admissions for the various course entry systems, after hearing the scientific council;
  • Approving the creation or extinction of departmental sections, in consultation with the scientific council, on the proposal of the respective departmental council;
  • Drawing up conclusions on the evaluation reports of the research units in which FCUP teachers and researchers participate;
  • Appointing course directors on the recommendation of the scientific council;
  • Sending to the rector the regulations for degree courses, approved by the scientific committees of the departments responsible, on the proposal of the respective course scientific committee;
  • Approve the regulations for non-degree courses, after consulting the scientific council;
  • Issuing the regulations necessary for the proper functioning of FCUP;
  • Approve the regulations of the organic sub-units; Approve the distribution of teaching service, taking into account its feasibility from a financial and operational point of view;

  • Decide on the appointment and hiring of staff in any capacity;

The Scientific Council is responsible for

  • Drawing up and approving its operating regulations;
  • Decide on the proposal for FCUP's strategic plan;
  • Appreciate FCUP's scientific activity plan;
  • Decide on the creation, transformation or extinction of FCUP's organic sub-units; Decide on the creation or extinction of departmental sections;
  • Award the status of a research unit recognized as a partner by FCUP;
  • Decide on the conclusions drawn up by the director on the evaluation reports of the research units in which FCUP teachers and researchers participate;
  • Decide on the distribution of teaching service, submitting it to the director for approval;
  • To give its opinion on the creation of study cycles in which FCUP participates and to approve the respective study plans, as well as any alterations; To give its opinion on proposals for continuous training courses and other non-degree courses;
  • Nominate course directors to the director for appointment, on the proposal of the scientific committees of the departments responsible for the courses;
  • To give an opinion on the maximum number of new admissions for the various course entry systems;
  • Recognize scientific areas as areas of activity for FCUP;
  • Propose the granting of titles or honorary distinctions;
  • Proposing and deciding on the establishment of awards;
  • Proposing and deciding on international agreements and partnerships;
  • Proposing to the director the opening of teaching and scientific research career competitions;
  • Proposing the composition of the selection boards for academic examinations and competitions;
  • To carry out the other acts provided for by law relating to teaching and research careers and the recruitment of teaching and research staff;
  • Carry out any other duties provided for by law or the statutes.

The Pedagogical Council is a management body of the Faculty made up of eight teachers and eight students, elected by the teaching or research staff and the student body respectively.

The Pedagogical Council is responsible for:

  • Approve its operating regulations;
  • Decide on pedagogical guidelines and teaching and assessment methods;
  • Promoting regular surveys of FCUP's teaching performance, as well as their analysis and dissemination;
  • Promoting the evaluation of the teaching performance of lecturers, by lecturers and students, as well as its analysis and dissemination;
  • Assessing complaints about pedagogical issues and proposing measures deemed appropriate;
  • Approve the pedagogical and student performance evaluation regulations, in accordance with the UP's general regulations;
  • Decide on the system of prescriptions and precedence;
  • Decide on the creation of study cycles in which FCUP participates and on the respective study plans;
  • Pronouncing on the institution of school awards;
  • Pronouncing on FCUP's academic calendar and examination schedules;
  • Carry out any other duties provided for by law or the statutes.
