He is currently the president of Coplana Cooperativa Agroindustrial, a non-profit organization made up of sugarcane growers, rotating sugarcane crops such as peanuts and soybeans, and other smaller-scale crops. The cooperative is a pioneer in the reverse logistics of pesticide packaging, has environmental reforestation and integration projects with local communities and has a consolidated Cooperative Education program for the training of members and collaborators.

Ana Arroio is the Coordinator of Innovation and Management at EMBRAPII, the Brazilian Enterprise for Industry and Innovation Research. She was manager of Innovation and Development at the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro – FIRJAN, from 2003 to 2014. She holds a doctorate in Science and Technology Policy from the University of Sussex (2000) and carried out her post-doctoral studies at Oxford and Princeton Universities, as a Global Leaders Fellow (2009 – 2010), where she worked on research related to innovation, international cooperation and governance. Research results were presented at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, discussed with the World Bank’s ST&I Program Coordinator and with the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research, Innovation and Science. Aldo Roberto Ometto is currently a professor at the University of São Paulo, a researcher at the Millennium Factory Institute (Instituto Fábrica de Milênio) and the Advanced Manufacturing Center (Núcleo de Fabricação Avançada). He is a graduate in Production Engineering – Chemistry from the Federal University of São Carlos (1997), Master in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2000) and PhD in Hydraulic and Sanitation Engineering from the University of São Paulo (2005). Paiva; which was performed on the Sandwich model at the University of Copenhagen – Denmark (1995-1996), working in the Molecular Pharmacology laboratory under the guidance of Dr. Thue W. Schwartz. Ciro Yoshiyasse has been working as a Designer for over 30 years, initially he designed machines and tooling for forging, metal stamping, casting, plastic injecting process at companies in the segment of automotive, petroleum industry and white line appliances. He has graduated in process production technology (FATEC- SP) and has taken an extension course in entrepreneur management (at FGV). Nowadays he is mostly focusing on the design of automotive electrical motors at Robert Bosch, but prior to that, he was involved in innumerous projects of design in various segments, such as Bikes, gifts, advertising at subway stations among others. For the last 10 years, he has been concerned about the environment and this has led him towards many studies to reduce the environmental impact of the industrial activities and direct consume. These papers and presentations have been published in SAE, AEA and Sindipeças forums. His studies have taken the path to the Eco Calculator, which is a product that may help in the decision taking when in face of a purchase dilemma for direct consumers and at the industries to obtain the best choice with the lowest impact to the environment. The main objective is to have indicators that facilitate the calculation and guide to the best green decision.

Adriano obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1979 from the University of Porto and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1989 from the same university. He currently is a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC), Faculty of Engineering (FEUP), University of Porto, in the areas of Automation and Sustainable Energy, namely Electric Mobility and Renewable Energy, participating in the various levels of education, and conducting various curricular units. Since 2013 he has led the SYSTEC (Research Center for Systems and Technologies) Smart Energy research group. Its main research theme is the development of new engineering solutions in electric mobility, renewable energy and energy efficiency based on new approaches of control, computational intelligence and application of power electronics. He has coordinated several research projects in these fields, many of them in industrial cooperation, and participated in several European projects. He has published over 150 articles in international newspapers and conferences. He has mentored 19 PhD theses and more than 70 Master theses.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) brings every kind of transport together into a single intuitive mobile app/service. It seamlessly combines transport options from different providers, handling everything from travel planning to payments. MaaS is environmentally sound alternative to private car ownership. It makes worries about route planning, parking, and car maintenance a thing of the past, helping people go places easier and more efficiently. One of the key goals of MaaS is to make cities more livable through reducing congestion and thus having a fresher, cleaner air, through improving transport efficiency in order to help residents and businesses thrive, and through encouraging urban transformation based on “from parking lots to parks” mentality.

Tekann Mobile Solutions is a specialized enterprise in software development, founded in 2004 and based in the technological park at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (TECNOUNISC). Tekann is a company focused in corporative applications, with programmes running in over 20 countries. With the need of a client in 2014, Tekann Mobile Solutions decided to invest in a software for integrated environmental management, so MeuResíduo emerged.
MeuResíduo is an integrated platform (web & mobile) that offers residue management support, waste removal (with option of photographic registry), transport, routing organization, storage, mapping and geo-localization of the removal and final destination of the residues. Léa Gejer is an Architect and Urban Planner (University of Campinas, Brazil – 2007) and Master in Urban Environmental Management (University of Wageningen, the Netherlands – 2011), specialized in the management of natural and local resources, circular design applied to the built environment, sustainable buildings and urban and regional strategic planning. Léa has worked as an architect and consultant in strategic planning and sustainable buildings in Brazil and the Netherlands. In 2013, she founded Flock, which, in 2014, became an official representative of EPEA GmbH in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since then, she has been working towards the implementation of Cradle to Cradle and Circular Economy. Moreover, at Flock, she has worked with circular design, Cradle to Cradle and environ-mental management applied to architecture, industrial products and integrated urban and regional planning. Léa is also co-founder and collaborator at Ideia Circular, an online space dedicated to the discussion and dissemination of Circular Economy and Cradle to Cradle in Portuguese. Along with this, she has been giving workshops, lectures and courses that approach circular design and Cradle to Cradle in its diverse scales, from products to architecture and cities. In 2019, she received the “highly commended” award from The Circulars 2019 jury for the Leadership category, an initiative of the World Economic Forum and the Global Forum of Young Leaders.

Walter Maccheroni Júnior is a biologist graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1988 with a postgraduate degree in biochemistry (master’s degree), molecular genetics (doctorate), phytopathology (postdoctoral, INRA, France) and biotechnology (ESALQ, USP). and with over 20 years of experience in research and development of products and processes related to the human health and agriculture sector. He began his professional career in the academic field and for some years researched problems in Brazil and abroad related to biotechnology applied to human health. From 1996 he transferred to the Department of Genetics of the Luiz de Queiroz Higher School of Agriculture (ESALQ- USP) and led research related to citrus, eucalyptus, soybean, cocoa and banana crops, among others. During his stay at ESALQ, he participated in the signing of co-development projects with private sector companies (Suzano Pulp and Paper, Fundecitrus, Admiral Cacau). In 2002, he was the first senior researcher hired by the biotechnology company Alellyx Applied Genomics, becoming the lead researcher who discovered the Citrus Sudden Death-associated Virus (CSDaV), a virus which may be responsible for the death of millions of orange trees. He is currently responsible for managing the Canavialis S.A. Biotechnology Laboratory, a structure that supports the sugarcane genetic improvement program and the biofactory that produces sugarcane seedlings. Among the laboratory’s achievements are the development of a genetic identification system for sugarcane varieties, diagnostic methods for Ratoon Stunting Disease – RSD in sugarcane and the development of new technologies for the production of healthy sugarcane seedlings.

Joao Transmontano

Born in Portugal’s coastal city of Lisbon, Joao Transmontano acquired a degree in Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon and at the ETH Zurich he received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology. Shortly after, he embarked on a job in Basel that fused technical knowledge and managerial skills. It was the beginning of his international career that led him through Europe, USA, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Working in various projects and for different organizations, (e.g. DLR in Cologne, Mepha in Basel, Vifor Pharma in St Gallen and later on in California USA) across continents gave him the opportunity to develop leadership and interpersonal skills. One of the projects that Transmontano was involved in inspired him to establish his own firm – Biolotus Biotech based out of Rio de Janeiro. Biolotus Biotech is a pharmaceutical company specializing in research, development, registration, manufacture, promotion, distribution and worldwide commercialization of pharmaceutical products of biotechnology origin, medical devices and cosmetic products. In 2016, during the Zika outbreak, Brazil was running out of time to find an effective solution to curb the virus as the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics was nearing. On another continent of the world, Angola was threatened by Yellow Fever. The common problem that these two distinct countries had were the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are the transmitters of Yellow Fever, Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria, among others. The rate of mosquito reproduction is extremely high. In 60 days, one female mosquito can generate 92 million other female mosquitoes. In the long-lasting battle against mosquitoes, a product was developed that starves mosquito larvae to death before they reach the adult stage. Inspired by the outstanding results that the product demonstrated, Joao Transmontano established a partnership which led to the creation of Entogenex Europe in Portalegre-Portugal and brought a booster shot to the mosquito fight by bringing the innovative product MOUSTICIDE™ to countries, where mosquito-borne diseases pose a threat to the national health. Entogenex Europe is committed to provide an effective, holistic approach to eradicate the problem at the source.
Additionally, Joao is leading Entogenex Europe into applying a similar technology to the one used to create MOUSTICIDE™. This may cause a change of paradigm in the agricultural sector as Entogenex Europe aims to develop biospecific, non-toxic and biodegradable crop pesticides.

Fabio is a graduate in Social Communication with a postgraduate degree in business administration. He has experience in finance and innovation, and has been working at the Ribeirão Preto hub of the University of São Paulo Innovation Agency (AUSPIN) for five years, conducting intellectual property protection orientation activities, guiding agreements aimed at collaborative agreements and technology transfer, as well as spreading the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at the USP Ribeirão Preto campus.

Ricardo Yogui is member of Innovation Agency of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (AGI/PUC-Rio). Yogui is also member of Anpei – The National Association for Research and Development of Innovative Companies – and Open Innovation BR community. His main focus is to promote open innovation initiatives that allow interactions between industry and academia in order to promote innovations with social impacts. Yogui is associate professor in the Industrial Engineering Department of PUC-Rio and guest professor of Innovation Management in Brazilian Business School such as IAG/PUC-Rio, FDC and Ibmec. He is the author of Innovation Framework – open model, adopted by organizations in different sectors in order to develop their strategic innovation plan. Ricardo Yogui is also a guest editor of “International Journal of World Review of Science & Technology for Sustainable Development Brazil/Sweden – edition 2018”. As researcher, Yogui worked on Plataforma iTec, an open innovation plataform developed by Anpei and MCTIC – Brazilian Ministry of Science Technology, Innovation and Communications. Before a sabbatical period, between 1994-2009, Yogui served global/local organizations as business operation head for South America region. In that period, he helped to introduce emerging technologies in the local market such as CAD/CAM, Printer 3D and 3D Laser Scanning, combined with new business models and new product licensing agreements.

Agronomist by ESALQ/USP, Master of Science from CENA/USP and invited professor of Innovation at FGV. He started his career at DeltaCO2, a Startup created to investigate the relationship between agriculture and climate change. In 2014, he joined the Applied Sustainability team of the Espaço ECO/BASF Foundation, where he worked with large agribusiness and food companies to understand their socio-environmental impacts and generate new business opportunities.

Pedro Coelho is the head of Research & Innovation Support Unit at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He holds a Degree in Business/Managerial Economics from the Universidade Lusíada do Porto. He is one of the collaborators of the FEUP Cooperation Division, who bridges the gap between students, researchers and companies, making technology transfer to the business fabric increasingly simple and effective. He is general coordinator of the BIN@™ network and one of the mentors, and he has overseen its organization for the past ten years. His expertise and contributions over the years have been crucial to the success of the network.
