Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, is Director of the Research Network in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (InBIO), since 2011, and Scientific Coordinator of the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO-InBIO), since its establishment in 2002.
Nuno Ferrand de Almeida is also Director of the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP), where is leading a major refurbishment operation based on an innovative museological model, and Director of the Doctoral Program in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution (BIODIV) organized by the Universities of Porto and Lisbon. Overall, he has supervised over 30 PhD and MSc theses and 15 post-doc projects.
Nuno Ferrand de Almeida has coordinated and developed numerous projects in the scope of evolutionary biology, particularly in what concerns genetic diversity patterns of natural populations, ecology, conservation, domestication and speciation, using rabbit as main model species. He has also studied the evolution of amphibian and reptile species in the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. So far, he has authored over 150 SCI papers and three books, edited four books, and written eleven book chapters.
