University of Porto
The University
Founded in 1911, the University of Porto is a benchmark for Higher Education and Scientific Research in Portugal. It is also one of the top
universities in Europe and among the top 10% in the world according to the QS University Ranking in “Economics and Econometrics”
(based on the analysis of more than 3,000 universities).
Birthplace of Science in Portugal and a key-driving force for economics, social, cultural, and scientific development, the University of Porto
is the most productive institution in Portugal in terms of patents: more than 300 active patents, with a solid emphasis in the field of health sciences.
The University of Porto Innovation mindset is also mirrored in UPTEC, the Science and Technology Park of the Academy, dedicated to incubating startups and hosting Business Innovation Centers in the arts, sciences, and technologies. Since its founding in 2007, UPTEC has supported more than 630 business ideas.
The city of Porto
Populated by churches, monuments and museums, Porto has one of the richest artistic, cultural and historical heritage in Portugal. This wealth has its maximum expression in the Historic Centre of Porto, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO in 1996 and the ideal starting point for a journey which mixes the past and the present in the right measure.
But Porto is also a city that can be discovered in a small alley or in a corner of a narrow street; on a morning walk along the Douro River or during lunch in Ribeira; watching the sunset from a terrace in Foz, or at the table of a traditional restaurant; and always in dialogue with the “Port knowledge” of its inhabitants.
It was considered Europe’s Best Destination on three occasions, is one of the most vibrant and eclectic cities in Europe.
