About UPBE
Mission
UPBE mission is to develop (future) professionals in economics and management, to advance knowledge in these fields, and to improve the management in organisations while contributing to the fair and sustainable progress of society.
UPBE achieves its mission by:
- Providing a full range of educational programmes (undergraduate, graduate, and executive education);
- Conducting theoretical and applied research;
- Developing initiatives that foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

Organizational Structure
UPBE is governed through a two-tier structure with a Strategy Committee and an Executive Committee. The Strategy Committee (SC),
playing a supervisory role, is composed of four members: 2 academic members from FEP and 2 non-academic members from PBS.
The Strategy Committee has the role of advising on the strategic plans of the consortium, monitoring its implementation, and making
recommendations when required. The Executive Committee (EC) is responsible for achieving the objectives and implementing the strategy
of UPBE. The Executive Committee has four members: the Deans and Associate Deans of FEP and PBS. The Dean of FEP is the Chair
of the Executive Committee and President of UPBE.
in consultation with the various stakeholders. In addition, the Strategy Committee advises on strategy implementation and on some
strategic initiatives and/or specific projects by request of the Executive Committee. For its turn, the Executive Committee develops an
overall yearly activity plan that encompasses all the areas in which UPBE is present, independently of which unit is primarily responsible
for its implementation. Each school has its own governing bodies that oversee and execute the activity plan in their specific domains.
Education is managed at unit level. FEP focuses on degree programmes in business and economics (bachelors, masters, and doctorates),
while Porto Business School offers MBAs, Postgraduate programmes, and Executive Education. Research is concentrated in CEF.UP
(Center for Economics and Finance at U.Porto) that conducts theoretical and applied research in Economics, Finance, and Management.
Innovation and Knowledge Transfer takes place at CBI, the Centre for Business Innovation, which focuses on studies and consultancy
projects on Digital Transformation, Business Model Innovation, Corporate Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability.
Faculty are clustered in four main areas: Management, Economics, Analytics, and Law & Social Sciences.
Sustainability at UPBE
UPBE has 4 strategic pillars, that recognize the importance of being a Sustainably Responsible School:
- in education: embedding sustainability topics in programmes and extra-curricular activities to help develop a socially and environmentally responsible (future) leaders;
- in research: developing / participating in research projects addressing sustainability topics;
- in innovation: delivering services that will drive change in the regional community;
- in society: engaging in volunteering activities and developing partnerships, with the main objective of promote the 2030 agenda.
The different initiatives that are defined in order to achieve these main goals are designed to:
- raise awareness: promote the literacy in sustainability topics and SGDs, as a fundamental step to achieve the purpose, improving sustainability consciousness through involvement of all stakeholders;
- produce knowledge: guarantee quality research and access to knowledge in these domains, that can be put at the service of our community;
- take action: implement activities and projects that will be the drivers of our contribution to the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
UPBE intend to contribute to the 17 SGDs, defined by the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, with the objective of contributing to the progress of the common objectives. Our contribution is translated in 3 main areas of action:
- the environment,
- the social inequalities,
- and the quality of life.
