Medicine in Football

Football is the most popular sport in Portugal. In this sense, the Portuguese Football Federation intends to establish a partnership with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto in order to boost an educational programme for football doctors, specifically addressing the sport in the topics of medical emergency on the field (training and game), evaluation and treatment of injuries, anti-doping and the duties of the team doctor. The course aims to establish itself in the context of the UEFA Football Doctor Education Programme, establishing itself as a specific training of postgraduates and/or specialists in sports medicine in the sport of football.

To know the UEFA's Minimum Medical Requirements
Know the functions, responsibilities and skills of the team doctor in football
Define plans and strategies for medical emergency for football players
Establish procedures for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of injuries and illnesses in football
To know and establish plans for protection of the football player, through strategies for injury prevention, monitoring of training / game loads and nutrition / nutrition
To know the procedures of anti-doping protocols in football.
