Doctoral Degree in Occupational Safety and Health

The Doctoral Programme in Occupational Safety and Health (DemSSO), resulting from a collaboration between 13 of U.Porto’s 14 faculties (FAUP, FADEUP, FBAUP, FCUP, FCNAUP, FDUP, FEUP, FFUP, FLUP, FMUP, FMDUP, FPCEUP, ICBAS), is designed for a diverse pool of candidates with educational backgrounds in any field that may in some way be related to matters of security, health and well-being. The course qualifies senior executives who already have the skills required to develop, coordinate, and control measures to prevent and protect from occupational hazards in various sectors of the economy.

Job Opportunities

At the end of the course, the holder of a PhD in Occupational Safety and Health is recognised by the Autoridade para as Condições de trabalho (Working Conditions Authority – ACT), with the following professional title: Senior Technician for Occupational Safety, level 8. This doctorate prepares graduates for the following activities: Teaching in Higher Education Institutions; Research Career in Higher Education and Scientific Research Institutions; Companies.
