Research ecosystem

The U.Porto research ecosystem, in its excellence and diversity, encompasses all areas of scientific knowledge with a strong focus on the heterogeneity of structures and intra-institutional partnerships.

The U.Porto R&D ecosystem consists of Organic Units (UOs), or Faculties, which make up the teaching and R&D+i units of the University, along with associated Research Institutes (IIs), which sometimes include other public and private entities. These UOs and IIs host Research Units (UIs) evaluated by FCT, as well as Functional and Competence Centers, whose purpose is to aggregate existing knowledge and skills within U.Porto and provide support services for R&D+i activities in various scientific fields..

In terms of external engagement, U.Porto participates in Academic and Clinical Centers, Associated Laboratories (LAs), Collaborative Laboratories (CoLABs), and Research Infrastructures, which are part of the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIE).

In which scientific fields do we engage?

The Research Units within the U.Porto R&D ecosystem stand out for their multidisciplinary approach, aligning with the scientific domains evaluated by FCT (2017/2018 evaluation exercise). The excellence of the research teams and their scientific output, supported by high-quality infrastructures, enables the development of innovative research, actively contributing to scientific progress.
