Research at U.Porto is guided by the Code of Ethics in Academic Conduct, a fundamental instrument in the development of the best pedagogical, scientific and civic practices.
The Code covers a range of matters, from compliance with the principles of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, to the socially useful promotion and dissemination of real knowledge, and outlines inappropriate conduct such as plagiarism/self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification or the intentional distortion of results, among other key issues.
The document was prepared by the U.Porto’s Ethics Committee (CEUP), a body whose main function is to analyse questions that raise ethical problems of a general nature, providing documents, opinions or recommendations regarding them.
The scientific community can also make requests to the different local ethics committees, in the Organisational Units and Associated Research Institutes of the U.Porto, to assess specific ethical aspects, within the scope of R&D+i initiatives or projects that include, in any form, people or animals (or biological material from people or animals).
