In response to the increasing demand for know-how on the part of businesses, both nationally and internationally, the University of Porto has continued to develop its infrastructure and has made a growing number of resources available with a view to expanding our scientific community.
Synergy between academia and industry stimulates productivity and competition, not only in terms of business results but also for academic research. It also simultaneously promotes the creation of or participation in private non-profit associations.
This mutually beneficial relationship has allowed for the following:
- Offering a training complement to post-graduate, master’s and doctoral students, who are given the opportunity to participate in research, development and innovation activities at entities that form part of the U.Porto Universe.
- An increase in the number of projects, published scientific articles, funding secured and doctorates completed in this context.
- Significant development of innovation and economic valorisation of knowledge (registered patents, spin-off businesses created, technology transfer, etc.).
The students, researchers and staff of U.Porto have access to a vast network of contacts and connections, which has established the University and its partner institutions as leaders.
These entities are extensions of the University, thus forming part of the U.Porto Universe. The Institutional Studies Unit tracks and monitors the economic and financial performance of entities, supporting the University’s representatives on governing bodies.
