Molecular Diagnostics in Pathology and Oncology

Molecular diagnosis is today a central tool in various areas of health and is applied in the definition of diagnosis, prognosis and predictive value of response to treatment. The areas of oncology and pathology are two paradigmatic examples of the application of molecular diagnostics and are two areas of activity of a diverse set of professionals, such as specialists and internists, nurses, pharmacists, diagnostic technicians and researchers. The proposed training has great professional value and meets a training need not covered in the curricula of the different study cycles or courses/training at the U. Porto.
This training meets the objectives of the U. Porto because it is a higher level training anchored in research and represents a social and economic enhancement of knowledge created and developed at the U. Porto with expected impact on the progress of the communities in which the U. Porto is inserted.

Job Opportunities

The training aims to familiarize the participants with the theoretical and practical fundamentals underlying the molecular diagnostic process in the areas of pathology and oncology. These fundamentals include theoretical knowledge about the detection and interpretation of genetic variants associated to oncological pathology of hereditary basis, as well as molecular biomarkers with diagnostic, prognostic and predictive value in solid and liquid tumours.
