Nursing in Anaesthesiology

The work in multidisciplinary teams is an essential condition in several areas of medical practice. In order to create conditions for a better performance of these teams, there is a need for adequate training and updating of the professionals involved. Anaesthesiology, as a medical speciality with a vast area of activity at hospital level, does not escape this reality.

The growing advances in medicine and consequent increase in life expectancy have triggered an expansion and differentiation of diagnostic or therapeutic procedures carried out under anaesthesia, and there has been an increase in the complexity of patients undergoing these procedures. Consequently, anaesthesiology has accompanied this evolution and is central to the reduced morbidity and mortality of these procedures in patients.
