About U.Porto - Ethics and Conduct

U.Porto is an institution committed to a culture of quality and demand, based on ethical standards that match its functions and role in society.

Ethics is a vital value in all of the University of Porto's activity. It ensures academic integrity and an environment of trust, respect and tolerance between all members of the community. It underpins the high standards of honesty and responsibility in our research. And it is on the basis of strong ethical principles that we train professionals committed to the needs of society.

These concerns are reflected in the Code of Ethics in Academic Conduct, a document that defines the rules of conduct that should guide all members of the U.Porto community in areas such as research, teaching and relations with the outside world.

The design and application of these directives is ensured by the Ethics Committee of the University of Porto.

More recently, the University has also implemented a Code of Good Conduct for Preventing and Combating Harassment and Discrimination at Work. This document establishes a set of principles that must be observed in the performance of work activities, constituting a self-regulatory instrument and promoting a policy of non-tolerance regarding the practice of harassment inside and outside the workplace or normal working hours.
