Biographies

Alberto Seixas Biography

In the Educational Innovation (IE) unit, Alberto Seixas is part of the audiovisual content production group. He is involved in the planning and production of this content in an educational context, in the management and maintenance of technical spaces and in supporting the unit's transversal activities. He regularly participates in international and national projects that the IE unit is a part of.

He was part of the team that produced content such as the MOOCs Initiation to the Portuguese language; Academic Portuguese for Slavic-speaking students; Eat better, save more; Promoting healthy aging through practical exercises; the training cycle Introduction to University Teaching; or the e-learning course Introduction to Educational Video Production.

In his professional career at U.Porto, he has worked in audiovisual support for the curricular units of the degree in Communication Sciences and in audiovisual support for JornalismoPortoNet (JPN), as well as audiovisual production activities and management of spaces and services at Media Innovation Labs (MIL).

At the same time, he works as a film director, having developed work in the field of short films and been honoured at various international and national festivals.

Catarina Sousa Biography

At the Educational Innovation Unit, Catarina is responsible for coordinating work on the reconfiguration, monitoring and improvement of the University of Porto's Pedagogical Surveys (IPUP) and collaborates in the process of publicising, registering and certifying the participation of teachers and students in U.Porto's training activities.

She is involved in international and national projects, organises scientific events and participates in scientific studies related to pedagogical innovation, validation of experiential skills, combating dropout and promoting the academic success of U.Porto students.

She has a degree in Educational Sciences and a master's degree in the specific field of Higher Education: institutional policies, governance, management and administration, from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Porto.

Her contributions to the Educational Innovation Unit have been recognised with papers and awards (Best Oral Paper Award in the area of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the 14th Meeting of Young Researchers of the University of Porto and presentations at conferences such as the International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation or the National Congress of Pedagogical Practices in Higher Education).

Duarte Ferreira Biography

At the Educational Innovation (IE) unit, Duarte Ferreira is part of the audiovisual production team.

Currently working at the University of Porto's Educational Innovation unit, he produces audiovisual educational content, including participation in various national and international projects integrated by this unit.

In the context of the duties he has carried out at the University of Porto since 2008, such as audiovisual technical support for the Communication Sciences course and audiovisual services at the Media Innovation Labs, he has also been involved in the refurbishment and management of the audio and video studios.

He also works independently as a sound director and sound designer on film projects, most notably in the areas of documentary cinema and animation. He has also worked as a sound artist in the areas of installation art, performance and video art, taking part in various exhibitions and collaborating with various national and international artists.

He has a degree in Audiovisual Communication Technologies from the School of Music and Performing Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.

Biografia Hugo Ribeiro

In the Educational Innovation unit, Hugo Ribeiro is dedicated to supporting the U.Porto community in the use of digital tools to support pedagogical strategies. Currently, his main focus is on the MOODLE Learning Management System, where he works as an administrator, trainer and instructional designer.

He began his career at U.Porto managing videoconferencing infrastructures and has been involved in distance learning since 2005 in the successive Educational Technology offices of the University's Rectory, where he promotes the use of assessment tools such as Wooclap and Moodle U.Porto's native testing tool.

In recent years, he has become closely involved in the Moodle Community through his participation in the Moodle Users Association (MUA), where he holds the position of secretary, and where he is responsible for developing opensource plugins.

He has a degree in Journalism and Multimedia Communication from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.

Isabel Martins Biography

In the Educational Innovation unit, Isabel Martins supports teachers in implementing strategies for the pedagogical use of digital tools, as well as training to optimise the use of these tools, in particular the Moodle learning management platform and the Turnitin plagiarism prevention tool. In addition to the online tutoring she provides, she knows, adapts and creates course designs for face-to-face and distance learning, in collaboration with lecturers.

As a trainer in the Educational Innovation unit, she organises various training courses in the field of educational technology, including learning management systems, tutoring, plagiarism prevention and digital portfolios.

She takes part in national and international meetings to accompany and monitor research projects, co-operation and consortia with Higher Education Institutions, in the area of distance learning and the use of digital technologies, and has specific publications.

Isabel Ventura Biography

In the Educational Innovation unit, Isabel Ventura is dedicated to producing reports, statistics and studies on the subject of educational innovation and the use of digital educational tools at U.Porto. She collaborates with the rest of the team to produce content for e-learning courses and takes part in national and international projects developed within the unit.

She began her professional career at U.Porto in 2001 as an information professional, having been responsible for the Communication Sciences Library from 2005 to 2016. In 2019, she obtained her PhD in Information and Communication on Digital Platforms from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto. Her research has focused on family archives, the organisation and representation of information on digital platforms, digital mediation of information, academic integrity and information literacy.

As a collaborator in the Educational Innovation unit, she has participated in the production of the course Introduction to Educational Video Production (2020); in the Erasmus+ project How Long is Too Long (HLITL) (2019) and co-authored the article "Teaching support strategy during COVID-19 pandemic at University of Porto" (2021).

Maria Pinto Biography

In the Educational Innovation unit, Maria's main role is to plan, manage and monitor the U.Porto pedagogical innovation enhancement programme, which aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning, a prerequisite for promoting students' academic success. This programme includes the Innovative Pedagogical Practice and Pedagogical Innovation awards.

She participates in national and international projects in the area of pedagogical innovation and is part of working groups of European organisations, such as the European University Association, which reflect on higher education, especially in the area of pedagogy and innovation.

Maria Pinto holds a master's degree in education and technology from the University of Florida (USA). She has worked in the area of education and technology at U.Porto for more than 20 years, having been part of the different teams supporting teaching and learning with the support of technology since its inception. She was part of the team that created the idea and concept of the U.Porto e-Learning Cafés, and during the first years of their operation she coordinated the team of student collaborators. This project, which ran for several years, was awarded the EUNIS Dorup Award in 2013. The award is given to implemented projects that use existing or new information technologies in an innovative way to improve learning.

Nuno Regadas Biography

In the Educational Innovation unit, Nuno Regadas supports teachers in implementing strategies for the pedagogical use of digital tools, promoting the inclusion of students with special educational needs and promoting the use of educational video. At the same time, he is a trainer in the use of the Moodle platform, the Panopto video management tool and the development of courses for face-to-face and distance learning.

He has a degree in Journalism and Communication Sciences - Multimedia Communication from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto. He also has a postgraduate degree in Human Computer Interaction from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and a master's degree in Multimedia in the Educational field from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with an exploratory dissertation on the use of educational video.

She is part of the online course development team at the University of Porto and regularly collaborates on national and international projects with Higher Education Institutions in the area of distance learning and the use of technologies. She takes part in national and international meetings to monitor research projects, co-operation and consortia with Higher Education Institutions, and has published several papers in the field.

Pedro Pacheco Biography

At the Educational Innovation Unit, Pedro is part of the audiovisual content production team, working on national and international projects with higher education institutions. His work involves designing, producing and directing educational videos and, in parallel, training U.Porto lecturers in audiovisual communication techniques. He also teaches at Porto Business School.

His professional career at the University of Porto began in 2008, when he joined the TVU team and the multimedia training project for media companies (LUSA, COFINA, PÚBLICO) in the audiovisual field. He has worked in audiovisual support for the degree programme in Communication Sciences, audiovisual support for JornalismoPortoNet (JPN), and audiovisual production at Media Innovation Labs (MIL).

Rita Sinde Biography

In the Educational Innovation (IE) unit, Rita Sinde is responsible for planning, organising, implementing and monitoring training activities for U.Porto teachers and students, with a view to their personal and professional development. She manages and coordinates the annual training plan, taking into account the priorities and training needs of members of the academic community, based on the analysis of data obtained through a questionnaire survey and the University of Porto's educational strategy.

She takes part in national and international meetings to monitor co-operation projects and consortia with higher education institutions.

She has held this position since 2018 at the Rectory of the University of Porto, after having been responsible for recruiting foreign students for the Porto Business School programmes (2010-2018) and having been part of the University of Porto's International Relations Office as head of the University's foreign student mobility area (1996-2010).

As Pro-Rector of U.Porto, Sónia Valente Rodrigues is responsible for matters related to pedagogical innovation, continuous improvement and the promotion of the Portuguese language. As part of this role, one of the sectors of her activity is located in the Educational Innovation unit, branched out into the Support for the Production of Educational Resources, Training and Valorisation of Pedagogical Innovation units.

She is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto and a researcher at the Linguistics Centre of the University of Porto. As a researcher, her work is centred on Educational Linguistics, Text Linguistics and the Didactics of Portuguese, and she is the author of publications and oral presentations in various academic contexts (national and international). As a lecturer, she teaches various subjects on master's and doctoral programmes geared towards teacher training. She has been part of specific Ministry of Education teams set up to produce the following documents: Profile of Students Leaving Compulsory Schooling, Essential Learning, Support for the Development of Learning and Socio-emotional Development and Well-being during and after the Pandemic and Report with proposals to amend Decree-Law 79/2014, of 14 May (legal regime for professional qualifications for teaching in pre-school education and basic and secondary education).

Susana Leitão Biography

In the Educational Innovation unit, Susana essentially carries out tasks related to the administration, development and maintenance of the U.Porto learning management platform (Moodle U.Porto), as well as maintaining integrations with the U.Porto information system and with other teaching and learning support services.

With a degree in engineering and a master's degree in multimedia technology, she has had a professional career at U.Porto in units and centres that support distance learning and the use of digital technologies in education, which has also included activities related to the creation of pedagogical content, such as educational simulations/animations and the development of interactive web content.

Teresa Correia Biography

In the Educational Innovation (IE) unit, Teresa Correia develops her work in the area of educational technologies by supporting teachers in defining strategic approaches and using digital tools to support teaching practices; designing and implementing online courses in different virtual environments; and training teachers in the use of the MOODLE platform.

Throughout her professional career at the University of Porto, she has participated in national and international events in areas such as educational technologies, distance learning, lifelong learning and pedagogical innovation, in which she has published specifically.

She also collaborates in national and European projects in which the IE unit is involved.
