Physician, scientist, professor, writer, artist, thinker, essayist, Abel Salazar (1889-1946) is a notable figure from the first half of the Portuguese 20th century. Although much has been done to publicize his various areas of activity and interest, namely through the Abel Salazar House-Museum (CMAS) and the ongoing reissue of his complete works by U.Porto Press, there is still much to (re)discover about his career and actions, marked by travel, in Portugal and abroad. His travel books such as Digressões em Portugal, Paris em 1934 or Um Estio na Alemanha are already better known, but not so much can be said about his travel notebooks, graphic diaries of the time. The Abel Salazar Travel Notebooks exhibition, organized by the CMAS of the University of Porto, the Association for Medicine, Arts and Ideas and the Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese Medical Association, thus seeks to reveal a more personal and intimate side of an instigating creator and man.
