Description of the project

The Erasmus+ Programme

The Erasmus+ programme aims to boost skills and employability, as well as modernizing Education, Training, and Youth work. The seven-year programme will have a budget of €14.7 billion; a 40% increase compared to current spending levels, reflecting the EU's commitment to investing in these areas.

The expectations for the Erasmus+ is to provide opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad.

Erasmus+ will support transnational partnerships among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organisations to foster cooperation and bridge the worlds of Education and work in order to tackle the skills gaps we are facing in Europe.

It will also support national efforts to modernise Education, Training, and Youth systems. In the field of Sport, there will be support for grassroots projects and cross-border challenges such as combating match-fixing, doping, violence and racism.

Erasmus+ brings together seven existing EU programmes in the fields of Education, Training, and Youth; it will for the first time provide support for Sport. As an integrated programme, Erasmus+ offers more opportunities for cooperation across the EducationTrainingYouth, and Sport sectors and is easier to access than its predecessors, with simplified funding rules.

What is the International Credit Mobility (ICM)?

For nearly 30 years, Europe has funded the Erasmus programme, which has enabled over three million European students to spend part of their studies at another Higher Education Institution (HEI) in an Erasmus programme country.

Credit mobility can be defined as a limited period of study or training abroad (in the framework of on-going studies at a home institution) for gaining credits. After the mobility phase, students return to their home institution, where the credits are recognized and they complete their studies. Since 2015, Erasmus+ funds International Credit Mobility, in addition to intra-European credit mobility (known until now as 'Erasmus mobility').

International Credit Mobility now offers opportunities to students and staff from other parts of the world. Under the ICM a HEI in a Partner Country can send its students or staff to a partner HEI in a Programme Country, and vice versa.

The international mobility of students and staff is open to participants from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) established in Partner Countries for which an inter-institutional agreement has been settled with Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA).

For this Call 2018-2020, NOVA has signed agreements with Partner HEIs from the following countries: Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Canada, Kosovo, Morocco, Montenegro, Palestine, Serbia and Tunisia.
