Master's Degree in Psychology Themes (MTP)

FPCEUP's Master's Degree in Psychology Themes (MTP) aims to qualify professionals with training in multiple areas, providing them with in-depth knowledge of psychology topics that will enrich their daily practices and professional performance. The topics covered include: Neurocognition and Language; Disaster and Trauma Psychology; Developmental Psychology and Child Education: Inclusive Education and Early Intervention; Social Psychology.

This cycle of studies does not allow you to practise as a psychologist and does not give you access to the Order of Portuguese Psychologists (OPP).

  • Holders of a national or foreign higher academic degree in other areas, provided that their curriculum demonstrates adequate basic scientific preparation for the cycle of studies in Psychology Themes;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognised as attesting to their ability to complete this cycle of studies by the FPCEUP's statutorily competent scientific body.

Selection and ranking criteria and their respective weightings:

CV assessment (and interview if deemed necessary by the jury for further clarification). The interview will be considered to clarify the weighting of the criteria listed below. Each candidate will be graded on a scale of minimum 1 and maximum 20. A mark of less than 9.5 justifies the exclusion of the application.

Weighting:

Weighting (out of 20 points): 1. relevance of basic training (academic curriculum) in relation to the thematic area of the Master's degree (5); 2. course classification obtained in previous training (4); 3. elements of complementary training during or after graduation (3); 4. previous research experience (2); 5. professional experience and its relationship with the thematic area of the Master's degree (1); 6. dissemination of research or professional practices (1); 7. motivation letter (4).

Master in Adult Education and Training (MEFA)

The Master's in Adult Education and Training (MEFA) aims to develop specialised skills and knowledge for action/intervention in this field, through the design, implementation, management and evaluation of lifelong learning projects aimed at adults, particularly in the context of the community and within the educational and vocational training offer, including the validation of experiential learning. It also prepares them for coordinating multi-professional teams working in these contexts and interventions and for research in the field of adult education and lifelong learning and guidance.

Master's Degree in Teaching Visual Arts in the 3rd. Cycle of Primary and Secondary Education (MEAV)

Organised by the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (FPCEUP) and the Faculty of Fine Arts (FBAUP) of the University of Porto, the Master's Degree in Visual Arts Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Primary and Secondary Education (MEAV) is a project for the academic and professional training of visual arts teachers, combining scientific and pedagogical knowledge and skills capable of responding to the challenges facing arts education. Throughout the cycle of studies, teacher training, supervised teaching practice and research in the visual arts aim to contribute to the critical discussion of the problems that affect schools and the actions of teachers, through innovative teaching and learning methodologies, in close relationship with the epistemological field of art education.

Resulting from the amendment to the legal regime for professional qualifications for teaching in pre-school education and basic and secondary education (DL 112/2023, of 29 November) the MEAV Study Plan will be updated.

Timetable: (to be confirmed) 1st Semester - Monday and Tuesday from 4pm to 9pm; 2nd Semester - Monday to Wednesday from 4pm to 9pm/22pm. - Holders of a higher academic qualification with a minimum of 120 ECTS in the scientific area of Visual Arts (may apply with 75% of the required credits, subject to obtaining the missing credits by the date of enrolment); and

- Oral and written proficiency in Portuguese (to be assessed at the interview and in a letter of motivation explaining the reasons for the application).

Weighting

  1. Motivation letter - 10%

In order to assess written command of the Portuguese language, the motivation letter must show the ability to articulate arguments in justification for applying to the course. This letter should be limited to 500 words.

  1. CV analysis - 70%

Candidates' CVs will be assessed according to the following sub-criteria and weightings:

2.1 – First degree or integrated master's degree - 25%

2.2 – Complementary training - 20% www.fpce.up.pt

2.3 – Experience in the educational and artistic field as it relates to art education - 25%

  1. Interview - 20%

As proficiency in Portuguese is a prerequisite for admission, the interview with the candidates is designed to assess this proficiency, focusing on the reasons given in the application process and the ability to articulate arguments.

Remarks: 1) The motivation letter will be eliminated if the score is less than 10. 2) Only those candidates who score more than 10 in the motivation letter and CV analysis will go through to the second selection stage (selection interview).

The Master's Degree in Psychology (MPSI) aims to qualify psychology professionals, equipping them with specialised knowledge and skills and attitudes suited to the performance of their work as psychologists in complex and unpredictable work and research contexts. The course focuses on four areas of specialisation in which the student will acquire core knowledge and skills and deepen conceptual models and specific intervention techniques: Clinical and Health Psychology; Educational and Human Development Psychology; Organisational, Social and Work Psychology; Psychology of Justice and Deviance.

Recipients:

  1. Holders of a degree in Psychology or Psychological Sciences;
  2. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree awarded following a 1st cycle of studies in Psychology organised in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process and recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution legally qualified for this purpose;
  3. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that confers, following specific recognition under the terms of article 20 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, rights inherent to holding a degree in Psychology or Psychological Sciences.
  4. "Students completing a degree in Psychology or Psychological Sciences" who are in a position to obtain a Bachelor's degree by the end of the enrolment deadline for the respective application phase, regardless of their Higher Education Institution (HEI) of origin. These candidates will lose their right to a place in the competition in question if they are unable to enrol by the deadline.

Selection and ranking criteria and their respective weightings:

Candidates will be ranked in descending order of their Final Classification (CF), based on the weighted average of the following components: Application Average (MC) and Prestige of the Educational Establishment (PEE).

The Final Classification (CF) is rounded to the nearest thousandth.

Placement in one of the Master's four areas of specialisation will be done in descending order of the FC, placing each candidate in the area of specialisation of greatest preference for which there are still vacancies.


Weighting

Application average - 70%

The Candidature Average (CA), expressed on a scale of 10 to 20, rounded to the nearest thousandth, represents the average of the marks obtained in individual courses weighted by the respective ECTS.


Prestige of the Educational Establishment (PEE) - 30%

The Prestige of the Educational Establishment (PEE) represents the quality and prestige of the applicant's home HEI, and is assessed using the latest available edition of the QS ranking.

Selection and ranking resulting from analysing the CV and Motivation Letter. An interview may take place if deemed necessary by the Jury for further clarification. Each candidate is graded on a scale of minimum 1 and maximum 20. A mark of less than 9.5 will result in the application being rejected.

Weightings (out of 20 points):

  • Overall assessment of the CV and its suitability for the study programme: 60%;
  • Motivation letter: 40 per cent.

Note: interviews may be held with applicants if there are ties in the ranking after the selection weights have been applied motivations and expectations regarding the training programme.
