Drug-Plant-Food Interactions
Person in charge
Health and illness result from a combination of various factors, often as a result of the combination of internal components (genetics) but also external ones (medication, lifestyle and diet). The effect of medicines, including their efficacy and safety, can be affected by various factors, including the consumption of herbal products and diet. Given that the concomitant use of medicines, plants and food is a common reality, a comprehensive understanding of their interactions is essential, both to ensure the effectiveness of treatments and to prevent the occurrence of adverse effects. This course covers fundamental concepts in natural product chemistry, phytotherapy and food chemistry, exploring the most common interactions between medicines, plants and foods. The course will provide trainees with a holistic and integrated vision, considering the complexity and interconnectedness of human biology with the surrounding environment.
