The UC (InovPED) Digital Health aims to prepare future healthcare professionals (and others interested in the area) for the digital transformation in healthcare. This transformation is taking place at a rapid pace across Europe and is already beginning to be felt in Portugal, especially since the pandemic, and is an unavoidable step in the continuous development of healthcare. Digital solutions have the potential to radically transform healthcare systems and healthcare education, delivering better health outcomes, services and quality through technological advances. It is expected that, within ten years, 75% of patients and caregivers will be using digital health services, particularly in managing well-being, access to care and chronic disease management. This training is a reference course, with a strong practical component, which affirms the University of Porto as a center of reference in the area of innovation in digital health, and Active and Healthy Aging, with the aim of responding to the major societal challenges associated with the digital transformation of health and care. This is an area of recognized value and social relevance, strongly aligned with the priorities defined by Horizon Europe. It is also a unique opportunity for today's students to prepare for the job market of the future. As part of the subject's practical training, working groups will be formed to develop innovative projects in the area of Digital Health, with the support of the subject's lecturers. At the end of the semester the working groups will be able to present their projects to a panel of judges who will choose a winning team that will receive access to training and personalized support to continue developing their idea. UC Digital Health is run with the support of the EIT Health project.
The general aim of this training is to provide basic transversal training, enabling students or health and social professionals to acquire knowledge and skills in digital health, as well as changing attitudes towards the digital transformation of health and care, and demographic ageing.
This training is aimed at students from the first, second and third cycles of studies in health and social sciences, or related areas, as well as professionals from these areas. Students from other areas who show motivation and interest may also be admitted to the training.
