Doctoral Degree in Language Sciences

The PhD in Language Sciences aims to develop skills for autonomous research, systematisation and elaboration of research works in fundamental/ theoretical and applied fields in the four branches offered by the course: Linguistics, Human Language Technologies/ Natural Language Processing, Translation and Didactics of Languages.

Curricular Structure

This cycle of studies has a duration of 6 semesters. In the first two semesters, students must attend a curricular part called the Doctoral Course (non-degree), corresponding to 60 ECTS, made up of compulsory and optional curricular units; the subsequent two years correspond to 120 ECTS and are intended for the preparation of the Thesis.

The Natural Language Processing curricular units of the Human Language Technologies variant of this PhD will be taught by lecturers from the Faculties of Engineering and Economics of the University of Porto.
