Masters Degree in Linguistics

The Master's Degree in Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities began in 1994. The Cycle of Studies focuses on the specialised areas of General Linguistics and Portuguese Linguistics, allowing students to deepen and enhance the knowledge previously obtained in degrees related to these academic fields.

Curricular structure

The syllabus has been designed to promote the development of specific skills in the area of Linguistics, from observing linguistic data, relating and generalising, to improving skills in synthesis and critical reflection.

The 1st and 2nd semesters make up the Specialisation Course in Linguistics (non-degree awarding). The Master's degree is awarded upon completion of the 2nd year, with the public defence of an original dissertation. The first semester consists of compulsory course units, which correspond to the core areas of Linguistics. In the 2nd Semester there are options, in order to give students the chance to build a path orientated towards their areas of interest.
