Curricular structure

The syllabus for this course aims to meet the requirements set out in the competency framework of the European Master's in Translation network (2022) as well as the ISO17100:2015 standard (International Standards Organisation - Translation Services Requirements).

During the initial two semesters, the syllabus aims to:

  • offer theoretical training in Translation Theory and Intercultural Communication;
  • offer practical training in translation technologies, such as Trados Studio, memoQ, Memsource and other freely accessible applications, as well as providing an overview of translation support resources and tools;
  • develop skills in translating technical, scientific and multimedia materials;
  • develop skills in the production, translation and revision of texts in Portuguese.

3rd semester - students choose between an internship project (for those wishing to undertake a curricular internship in the 4th semester) and a research project (for those opting for a dissertation in the 4th semester) and have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with areas such as machine translation and post-editing, localisation, legal translation, economic and financial translation, literary translation, translation project management and community interpreting.

4th semester - students carry out a curricular internship that allows them to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the learning component of the master's degree; alternatively, students devote themselves to writing a dissertation, following on from the research project carried out in the 3rd semester.
