Masters Degree in Archaelogy

FLUP has a long academic tradition in the archaeological field, being one of the first Portuguese universities to adopt the History of Art and Archaeology variant in the program of the History Degree (1978-79). This Master's Degree in Archaeology was the first course of this type to run in Portugal (1989-90).

Curricular structure

The first year of the Master's Degree entails attending different specialised curricular units in the field of Archaeology, followed in the second year by the preparation of a dissertation or a curricular internship, complemented by the respective Internship Report, both of which are subject to assessment and public discussion by a jury.

The dissertation and internship report can be carried out in the areas of:

  • Prehistoric Archaeology;
  • Protohistoric Archaeology;
  • Classical Archaeology;
  • Historical Archaeology of Portugal;
  • Epigraphy (Roman and Portuguese);
  • Numismatics (Roman and Portuguese);
  • Archaeology and Heritage.
