Masters Degree in History, International Relations and Cooperation

The Master’s Degree in History, International Relations and Cooperation is aimed at deepening students' training in International Relations and Political Studies according to a plurality of disciplinary perspectives and a socio-historical approach. Given the plural training and diverse backgrounds of the students who pursue this cycle of studies, the Master's training offer is assumed to be multidisciplinary and is characterised by a high degree of openness in terms of the composition and management of the study plan, in order to adapt to the training interests of each student.

Curricular structure

The Master's programme covers the fields of History, Cooperation and Development, Education, Cultural Studies, Political Studies, Law, Philosophy, Literature, Psychology, International Relations and Sociology. Specialisation at regional level is also encouraged, namely with specific curricular units on Africa, Brazil, North America, the Arab world and the Middle East, Europe, etc...

The MHRIC comprises a common training area (in Methodologies of Scientific Work; Political Theories and International Relations; and Problematics of International Politics) and two distinct specialisation areas (in International Relations and Cooperation or in Political Studies). In the second year, with the public defence of a dissertation or final internship report, students obtain a master's degree in their chosen specialisation:

  • Master's in History, International Relations and Cooperation: specialisation International Relations and Cooperation;
  • Master's degree in History, International Relations and Cooperation: specialisation in Political Studies

The Master’s Degree has teachers and researchers from FLUP’s various departments and other faculties (Psychology and Education Sciences) of the University of Porto. The teaching team is also involved in national and international projects and collaborates with specialists from various Portuguese and foreign universities. In addition, the Master's is an active participant in the organisation of and association with annual academic events, such as the Colloquium of Young Researchers in International Relations, organised by Master's graduates of the programme, with the active participation of students.
