Masters Degree in Sociology

The Master's Degree in Sociology aims to update, deepen and specialise scientific knowledge in the disciplinary area of Sociology. The aim is to prepare sociologists as technicians, specialists, managers, researchers and teachers with a high level of scientific training for qualified professional practice.

Curricular structure

The Master's programme lasts two years (four semesters) and corresponds to 120 ECTS. The first year consists of a non-degree master's course, made up of a set of curricular units corresponding to 60 ECTS. It confers a non-degree awarding course in Sociology. It provides in-depth sociological training in areas such as:

  • contemporary sociological theories
  • the dynamics of Portuguese society;
  • quantitative and qualitative methodologies and sociological intervention;
  • specialised sociologies.

The 2nd year (60 ECTS) consists of two curricular units to support the preparation of a scientific dissertation, or a professional internship with a final report, the defence of which in public examinations will allow the student to obtain a master's degree in Sociology (120 ECTS).
