Research Units - Geography and Spatial Planning Research Centre - Porto

CEGOT is an R&D Unit that was officially recognised by the Foundation for Science and Technology in December 2008.

The Unit is organised around three research groups: Nature and environmental dynamics, Cities and territorial development and Tourism, heritage and territory. The overall strategy focuses on the Unit's main strengths, but also on responding dynamically to emerging issues and new theoretical and methodological perspectives. Considering the challenges and complexity of socio-ecological systems, CEGOT's research agenda is guided by the vectors of quality, impact, partnerships, linking research and advanced training, citizen science and internationalisation.

Activities

  • CEGOT welcomes lecturers, researchers and postgraduate students from Portuguese and foreign institutions who identify with CEGOT's objectives and wish to take part in its scientific activities.
  • CEGOT invests in creating a culture of collaboration in order to co-produce knowledge and co-create solutions that induce positive changes in public policies. In the science-policy-practice interaction, it is essential to involve citizens in order to promote greater scientific literacy and the valorisation of research as a route to socio-economic progress.
  • CEGOT is committed to the professional ethics of research, the originality of ideas, results that go beyond the state of the art, the transparency of research processes, the sharing of data and the systematic reuse of results.
  • CEGOT intends to consolidate interaction with the network of universities in Portuguese-speaking countries, strengthening international cooperation and the discussion of analogies/differences in territorial problems and potential; as well as expanding the spaces for scientific collaboration to other geographies.
