Organization - Governing Bodies

The Council of Representatives is comprised of 15 elected members.

This administrative body is responsible for organising the process of electing the Dean, formally communicating the result of the elections to the Rector, as well as the respective governance programme, approving regulations and amendments to the statutes, assessing management acts, proposing initiatives for the efficient running of the institution, and making strategic decisions about research units and honorary awards.

The Council of Representatives is currently chaired by Professor Inês Amorim.

In accordance with the Statutes of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, the Council of Representatives elects the Dean by secret ballot, from among applicants belonging to the teaching and research staff of the University of Porto or of national or foreign universities or research institutions. The name of the Dean elect is then submitted to the Rector for approval. The Dean's term of office is four years.

The current Dean of FLUP is Professor Paula Pinto Costa.

The Executive Council is a management body whose members are proposed by the Dean and ratified by the Council of Representatives. The Executive Council is constituted by the Dean, who presides, three members who are teachers or researchers and one member who is part of the non-teaching staff.

The Executive Board is responsible for assisting the Dean in the exercise of his duties and exercising the powers delegated by the University's Management Board.

The Scientific Council is a management entity composed by twenty-five members, being composed by: President; Vice-President, which is one of the teaching or researching members in the Executive Council; Eighteen elected members (by the teachers and researchers) and Five elected members (by the R&D units).

The Dean of the Faculty is inherently the President of the Scientific Council.

The Pedagogical Council has sixteen members, equally distributed between teachers and students.

FLUP's Pedagogical Council is responsible for advising on pedagogical guidelines, teaching methods and assessment, approving study plans, promoting surveys and assessments of pedagogical performance, analysing pedagogical complaints, approving regulations, proposing academic awards, and deciding on the academic calendar and map of exams.

The Pedagogical Council is currently chaired by Professor Mário Gonçalves Fernandes.
