Processes and Products

especializacao_1

This specialisation provides training closer to traditional Chemical Engineering. It focuses on the areas of conception, design, development and optimisation that lead to large-scale production of the chemical products that we deal with on a daily basis

Energy

especializacao_2

Accompanying the growing concern about the scarcity of energy resources, this specialisation seeks to students with professional skills that will enable them to apply correct energy approaches. These mainly involve efficient use of energy, renewable energy sources, and process sustainability.

Biotechnology

especializacao_3

This specialization allows students to complement their training in Chemical Engineering with specific competences in several domains of Biotechnology. It is aimed, for pharmaceutical and natural products valorisation industries, among several others.

Environment

especializacao_4

Particularly focused on the concern for the environment, in this specialisation students gain professional skills that allow them to design and implement technologies for prevention, intervention, abatement and rehabilitation, in order to minimise or eliminate the harmful effects of pollution and reduce the intensity of the use of natural resources, minimising the negative impact of human activity on the environment.

FEUP represents for me the materialization of a dream. Since I was a little girl, I could see myself studying outside my home country, in a college of excellence, and living international experiences. It was then that I discovered the opportunity to make that dream come true with the Faculty of Engineering of the U.Porto (FEUP). In August 2018 I left Brazil and arrived in the city of Porto to start the Chemical Engineering study programme.

I always liked to be challenged and living alone, away from all my family, and doing a degree that is among the top 100 in the world was definitely one of the biggest challenges I ever set myself. The dream of becoming an engineer is not an easy path, it is a study programme that demands a lot of dedication, but FEUP offers all the necessary structures for a good learning. The opportunity to learn with such renowned teachers, who teach with so much passion, who teach us to investigate everything and who always make us see how to apply the theories in real situations in the area, is an immense privilege and makes me feel every day more prepared and secure in becoming an engineer who carries the name of FEUP.

There are also several student associations with the most diverse purposes and that, for me, is an essential college experience because we learn to work in groups, having contact with knowledge from several areas of knowledge and developing personal skills that are not taught in the classroom. Another incredible opportunity that the faculty offers is to do part of the study programme in another university of excellence, in another country, through the Erasmus programme, which promotes a unique personal, cultural and academic exchange.

Porto is a unique city with its sky, landscapes and people, which only complements the dream experience that is studying at FEUP, as well as a challenge and a privilege. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I wish everyone could live such a rich experience.

Mobility Agreements

Mobility Agreements

The experience of international mobility offers the chance to explore knowledge from a different point of view, to immerse oneself in a different culture and to broaden horizons, crossing borders and thus reducing distances. In this sense, as FEUP considers the internationalisation of the curriculum and skills to be essential in today's society, it offers students various opportunities for international mobility.

In the Master's in Chemical Engineering, students can spend a semester in mobility, in the 2nd semester of the 1st year or in the 1st semester of the 2nd year, at a school with which there is an exchange agreement. It is also possible to spend an additional semester in mobility to complete the dissertation, with the defence taking place at FEUP.

Partnerships with companies

Partnerships with companies

It is common practice to invite personalities from the business world and the public sector as part of various curricular units, in order to encourage students to have contact with non-academic environments.

In addition, students can carry out their dissertations in a business environment or in research laboratories - and much of the work carried out is part of research projects with public or private funding. The research centres to which the lecturers are affiliated promote technology transfer projects with companies, which allows them to assess the needs of the productive fabric and to promote the presentation of topics for students' dissertations. Companies often contact lecturers to establish collaborations ranging from consultancy to technology transfer. These projects may involve students from the programme and may be the subject of dissertations (subject to appropriate confidentiality conditions).
