Advanced Studies in Building Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation of the built heritage is a duty for society and a development opportunity for the construction sector. The range of possible interventions is very broad, including the conservation of monumental heritage, the in-depth renovation of old buildings and the elimination of pathologies in newer buildings. Interventions in the built heritage, if carried out correctly, also lead to gains in terms of sustainability, durability, energy efficiency and comfort.

Learning Objectives

Objetivos de aprendizagem

The Advanced Studies in Rehabilitation of Built Heritage, in the field of Civil Engineering and Architecture, offers a solid, multidisciplinary technological training necessary for the correct intervention in the built heritage. The diploma includes training in the various areas of civil engineering, focusing on content that enables the understanding and implementation of mechanisms that guarantee the resilience of rehabilitated buildings and cities, as a fundamental parameter for coping with climate change.

At the end of the course, students should be able to identify the different diagnostic techniques and methodologies for correct, optimised and sustainable intervention, tailored to the specific characteristics of the Portuguese building stock, and be able to implement transformative, inclusive and sustainable building improvement measures. This knowledge will be fundamental in the fight against energy poverty in Portugal, for the development of urgent and temporary housing plans, for the rehabilitation of public housing and heritage, and for the creation of student accommodation.
