Objectives
Students in the PDEA develop their doctoral theses in different departments of the FEUP, promoting excellence in research and technological development while acquiring transversal skills in communication, scientific ethics, innovation and entrepreneurship.
INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Doctoral Programme in Environmental Engineering includes a curricular component in the first year that can be completed at a distance, except for the annual dissertation project course, which takes place in person. This study programme includes research activities at FEUP laboratories, focusing on the future thesis topic. In the following years, the work on the thesis is done exclusively in person.
This doctoral programme does not offer its own scholarships. The Portuguese scientific system awards doctoral scholarships to national and international candidates through a competition that usually takes place in February each year. Applicants must have a work plan and an institutional supervisor.
If you wish to apply for a doctoral scholarship, we recommend that you contact one of the professors of the doctoral programme, explaining your motivation and areas of interest. We recommend that you send your CV, including your academic average, so that you can work together to find a suitable doctoral topic and supervisor for the scholarship.
Although international students do not need to have their (Master's) degree recognised in order to enrol in doctoral programmes in Portugal, if you wish to apply for a doctoral scholarship, you will need to have your degree recognised. Information on this procedure can be found here.
