This doctoral programme can be undertaken in one of the following areas of specialisation:

  • Geotechnics
  • Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment
  • Construction Materials
  • Land Planning and Environment
  • Transportation Infrastructure

Alternatively, the study cycle may not be associated with any of these areas, in which case it is simply referred to as a Doctorate in Civil Engineering.

Graduates with a Doctorate in Civil Engineering from the FEUP are prepared to promote scientific development and technological innovation in the field of Civil Engineering, not only in higher education institutions and research laboratories, but also in public institutions and private companies, both in Portugal and abroad.
