Learning objectives
Mining systems are particularly complex because they are natural, social, environmental and technological hybrids, have enormous physical and economic dimensions, and very significant environmental, social and political impacts. Understanding mining today and in the future therefore requires:
- mastery of the common scientific and technological tools of engineering
- an in-depth knowledge of the geological domain and its processes, from the mineralogical micro-scale to the planetary scale;
- knowledge of mining technologies in the broadest sense of exploration/prospecting, extraction, processing, environmental sustainability and marketing;
- the ability to read the mine systematically.
This broad supporting knowledge is necessary to deal with mining technology and its complex raw materials.
The aim of this cycle of studies is to prepare the foundations of scientific and technical knowledge and individual professional interaction skills that will allow the training of a top mining technician capable of knowing, understanding, designing and operating with all these dimensions.
