R&D&I is one of FEUP's main activities and the institution is recognised by society for its excellent performance in this field. FEUP has a Research and Innovation Support Unit (INOV), which is responsible for promoting and supporting participation in projects at national and international level, and which periodically disseminates funding opportunities to the scientific community to apply to national and international programmes aimed at carrying out R&D projects and building the capacity of its R&D units and associated laboratories.*
Financial support
In 2022, FCT's financial support for FEUP's approved projects corresponded to a total eligible investment of more than €2.8 million.
As part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), FEUP is involved in 25 major projects in the Sea, Sustainable Bioeconomy, Digital Transition and Capitalisation and Business Innovation components, representing a total eligible investment for FEUP of more than €35 million.
With regard to the Horizon Europe programme, FEUP is involved in 13 projects approved under the 2021 and 2022 calls, representing a funding of around 7.3 million euros for the Faculty. FEUP is the coordinator or host organisation for 3 of the 13 projects.
Regarding other international programmes, taking into account the known results of the 2021 and 2022 calls, FEUP is involved in 26 approved projects with a total funding of around 1.8 million euros. FEUP coordinates 14 of these projects.
