The Technical Maintenance and Environment Services (STMA) carry out their activities within the scope of the daily operations and maintenance of all buildings and outdoor spaces, infrastructure, and general-use equipment at FEUP, as well as transformations aimed at adapting these facilities to new technical requirements and new types of usage.

The Buildings and Outdoor Spaces Unit operates within the scope of the operation, conservation, adaptation, and construction of buildings, roads, public areas, and green spaces, as well as the conservation and modification of water supply and sanitation infrastructures. Its responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the general conservation of buildings and their structural and functional components, particularly in the field of civil construction;
- Conducting needs assessments, managing, and overseeing the execution of routine maintenance activities in buildings and outdoor areas;
- Managing and executing adaptation works in buildings and outdoor spaces using internal resources;
- Managing the operation and conserving various water supply networks (potable water and water from local sources) and sewage systems (wastewater and stormwater), as well as other hydraulic systems for specific use;
- Conducting needs assessments, managing, and overseeing the execution of green space maintenance activities;
- Planning and promoting preventive maintenance of buildings;
- Contributing to diagnosing conservation or operational issues of buildings;
- Acquiring, supplying, and storing materials and spare parts used in civil construction;
- Preparing or overseeing the preparation of civil construction projects;
- Preparing tender documents and other documentation for the procurement of goods and services in the civil construction field;
- Preparing project specifications for civil engineering contracts;
- Monitoring and overseeing the execution of civil construction works.

The Electrical Equipment Unit operates within the scope of the acquisition of resources, ongoing operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and energy distribution systems and communications, and is responsible for:
- Managing the ongoing operation and providing internal or external maintenance for various systems related to the distribution of electrical energy (medium voltage and low voltage);
- Managing the ongoing operation and providing internal or external maintenance for various systems related to the structured communications network;
- Acquiring, provisioning, and storing materials for repair or replacement needed for the maintenance and modification of the electrical network;
- Acquiring, provisioning, and storing materials for repair or replacement needed for the maintenance and modification of the structured communications network;
- Planning and promoting preventive or corrective maintenance activities for the systems it supervises;
- Contributing to diagnosing functional issues in electrical and communications equipment;
- Developing or overseeing the development of projects related to electrical and communications networks, either independently or as part of multidisciplinary projects;
- Preparing and overseeing the preparation of terms of reference and other documentation for the procurement of goods and services in the area of Electrical Engineering;

The Mechanical Equipment Unit operates within the scope of the acquisition of resources, ongoing operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and various systems, particularly those related to HVAC, elevators, and others. Its responsibilities include:
- Managing and carrying out ongoing and corrective maintenance for mechanical equipment integrated into these systems;
- Acquiring, provisioning, and storing materials for repair or replacement related to the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems;
- Planning and ensuring the consistency of planned or corrective preventive maintenance activities;
- Promoting the use of maintenance management software tools;
- Contributing to diagnosing functional issues in mechanical equipment;
- Developing or overseeing the development of projects related to mechanical equipment, either independently or as part of multidisciplinary projects;
- Preparing and overseeing the preparation of terms of reference and other documentation for the procurement of goods and services in the field of Mechanical Engineering;
- Preparing the components for tendering procedures within the scope of Mechanical Engineering;
- Monitoring and supervising installations carried out with external resources;
- Controlling the supply of natural gas and managing the respective contract;

The Health, Safety, and Environment Unit operates within the scope of information and prevention regarding health and safety at work, as well as environmental management. Its responsibilities include:
- Planning and coordinating workplace health and safety activities in accordance with legal requirements;
- Promoting the maintenance of equipment related to the safety of facilities, particularly fire alarm and firefighting systems;
- Preparing and maintaining the operational readiness of internal resources for emergency response;
- Preparing and overseeing the preparation of terms of reference and other documentation for the procurement of goods and services in its area of activity;
- Developing and keeping up-to-date the FEUP safety plan, including the internal emergency plan;
- Coordinating FEUP’s environmental management;
- Promoting the selective collection of recyclable waste;
- Planning and managing the treatment/disposal of various types of waste;
- Conducting training sessions and promoting other awareness-raising actions to encourage proper environmental management.
