The Academic Services (SERAC) operate in the areas of administration, management, and support, focusing on study programme management, access, admission and certification, and student management. Their activities are carried out in accordance with supervisory instructions and the directives of the management bodies, with the relationship with students forming the core of their mission.

Units

The Study Programme Management Unit operates in the areas of administration, management, and support concerning academic functions and information management. Its responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the processes of accreditation, modification, and credit transfer plans for study programmes with regulatory authorities or other entities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations;
  • Ensuring the registration of information related to study cycles/study programmes in various systems;
  • Supporting the organisation of joint programme processes at national and international levels (partnerships);
  • Guaranteeing the updating of information related to study cycles/study programmes to support certification;
  • Providing information about students to regulatory authorities and other entities (RAIDES, thesis registration, internal requests);
  • Monitoring the registration of operational information for study programmes in the information system;
  • Following up on internal or external audit processes;
  • Determining indicators related to the service's area of intervention.

The Access, Admission and Certification Unit operates in the areas of administration, management, and support related to access and admission processes, as well as certification. Its responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the definition of different access conditions for various admission schemes;
  • Assisting in defining the conditions for conducting assessments to evaluate the capacity of individuals over 23 years old to attend higher education;
  • Ensuring the registration of application-related information in various systems;
  • Preparing procedures associated with access for different admission schemes;
  • Ensuring the publication of access and application conditions in the information system;
  • Providing information about access and admission conditions for the study programmes in which FEUP is involved;
  • Verifying local application processes for various admission schemes and phases, as well as associated credit transfer requests;
  • Monitoring the publication of ranking lists in the information system;
  • Verifying credit transfer requests;
  • Preparing procedures related to enrolments and registrations for various admission schemes;
  • Ensuring the publication of information on enrolments, registrations, and credit transfers in the information system;
  • Supporting the registration/parameterisation of enrolment, registration, and credit transfer information in various systems;
  • Organising processes related to enrolments and registrations;
  • Assisting students with the enrolment and registration process;
  • Determining and communicating remaining vacancies to regulatory authorities;
  • Monitoring enrolment, registration, and credit transfer processes;
  • Managing the processes of students in joint programmes at national and international levels;
  • Administering enrolments in individual course units under the University of Porto's regulations for study cycles/study programmes;
  • Ensuring and monitoring the certificate issuance process;
  • Preparing procedures related to certification and ensuring their publication in the information system.

The Student Management Unit operates in the areas of administration, management, and support related to student services, academic progress, individual student processes, academic assessments, and student graduation processes. Its responsibilities include:

  • Providing in-person and telephone support;
  • Responding to information requests addressed to the Academic Services via email or redirecting them to relevant areas, depending on their content and specificity;
  • Collaborating in the collection, processing, maintenance, and dissemination of information in the information system;
  • Providing information about and on the attendance of study programmes in which FEUP is involved;
  • Issuing attendance declarations and completing forms related to students' academic progress;
  • Preparing reports and opinions on matters raised by students;
  • Managing information related to students' academic records, ensuring the processing of data for various academic actions;
  • Monitoring the tuition fee and payment processes;
  • Supporting the preparation of the list of students to whom regulatory authorities will award scholarships and academic prizes;
  • Managing the process of issuing academic transcripts;
  • Organising and monitoring the processes for the equivalence and recognition of foreign higher education degrees;
  • Ensuring the organisation of academic assessments leading to the award of doctoral degrees and the academic title of agregado;
  • Managing student graduation processes;
  • Ensuring the submission of students’ theses and dissertations to the public entities responsible for their legal deposit;
  • Preparing procedures related to scholarships, incentives, special statuses, examinations, academic suspensions, requests, dissertations, theses, and the equivalence and recognition of foreign higher education degrees, and ensuring their publication in the information system;
  • Providing technical support for continuing education programmes (preparing technical-pedagogical dossiers, offering logistical support, and processing all information related to course execution);
  • Managing the financial aspects of continuing education activities.
