Complementary Skills Programme for First-Cycle Engineering Students

This programme aims to expand the foundational training of the study cycle to complementary areas of Engineering, through attendance at courses focused on the development of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary skills that promote adaptation to different contexts and/or problem-solving capacity.
It also aims to encourage the organisation of Student Activities centred on training activities and/or technical-scientific events and/or competitions, enabling the certification/crediting of organisational skills (planning, resource management, etc.) and soft skills (teamwork, leadership, etc.) developed in this context.
The programme further aims to enable the accreditation of participation in Engineering Competitions, which are focused on solving complex problems/challenges, involving prior specific training and where the development is centred on team-based work with time-limited objectives.

Transversal Skills Programme for Second-Cycle Studies

This programme aims to promote the comprehensive training of students, including skills in the fields of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, through the attendance of Transversal Skills (TS) courses specifically created for this purpose at FEUP or offered by other Organisational Units of the University of Porto.

Transversal Skills Programme for PhD Students and Researchers

The promotion of the development of transversal skills at the third-cycle level is one of the quality principles of doctoral education, with its implementation being recommended for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that aim to be competitive and recognised.
Aware of these challenges, FEUP recognises that such skills, in addition to aligning doctoral programmes with the most recent quality standards in doctoral education, can: provide PhD students with better guidance and onboarding to the doctoral process, lead to more efficient and productive thesis development, help find coping strategies for daily challenges, promote the creation of businesses, start-ups, and new projects, etc., thereby increasing the employability of PhD students.
