Institutional - Who we are

The Faculty of Engineering is the largest faculty of the University of Porto, with a privileged location in the Porto Innovation District.

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) is the largest of the 14 Faculties that make up the University of Porto, currently one of the most prestigious Higher Education Institutions in Europe.

With almost 10,000 students and more than 600 professors and researchers spread over six departments: Civil and Georesources Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management and Informatics Engineering.

FEUP is located in a true innovation district, where the strong presence of engineering, health sciences and entrepreneurship is highly conducive to the innovation process. It is also home to the University of Porto Science and Technology Park (UPTEC), a fundamental structure for supporting the transfer of knowledge between the university and the market.

Mission

FEUP carries out its mission with reference to the values expressed in the University's statutes, as well as the highest quality standards adopted at international level.

It is an institution dedicated to the creation, transmission and dissemination of knowledge, technology and culture in the field of engineering, at the service of human beings, with respect for all their rights. In pursuit of its mission, FEUP:

  • Offers and ensures scientific, technical, ethical and cultural training for its students, through bachelor's, specialist, master's and doctoral programmes, within the framework of the Faculty or the University;
  • Provides ongoing scientific, technical, ethical and cultural training, particularly aimed at supporting engineering professionals;
  • Develops scientific and technical knowledge and procedures in the areas of engineering, through a consistent policy of research, development and extension;
  • Develops actions for the dissemination of knowledge, transfer and valorisation of technologies and consultancy;
  • Contributes to the scientific, technical, economic, social and cultural development of the region and the country;
  • Actively participates in international actions, particularly at European level and in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), to develop policies related to training, research and development and the management of higher education institutions;
  • It encourages artistic, cultural, sporting and scientific activities and promotes spaces for experimentation and support for the development of skills and attitudes, particularly those related to collective and social participation.

FEUP recognises the Students' Association of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto - AEFEUP, professional associations and alumni associations as privileged partners in the pursuit of its mission.

FEUP aims to be an engineering school of international excellence in academic and civic education, research and innovation, aspiring to be permanently recognised as a sustainable institution with an impact on science and culture, society and the economy.

The affirmation and notoriety of FEUP also involves a commitment to values related to culture, sport, sustainability and social responsibility, which is reflected in the creation and consolidation of the FEUP Commissions.
