Pre-University - Summer School

The Summer Schools of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto offer secondary school students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of science through practical and interactive activities.

Summer School of Chemistry and Biochemistry

At the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, you'll have the opportunity to join a research team and take part in a relevant and current project. You will collaborate with some of the most outstanding researchers in the field and familiarise yourself with the latest discoveries and innovations in Chemistry and Biochemistry.

By participating in this School, you will be able to understand first-hand the contribution of Chemistry and Biochemistry to the solution of contemporary challenges, essential for the sustainable development of the planet and the balanced progress of society.

The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry is aimed at students who are currently attending secondary school (10th to 12th grade).

Candidates must submit their application online.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their letter of motivation and the other documentation submitted.

Summer School of Physics

The Physics Summer School offers an experience of what it is like to be a physicist or physics engineer.

The advanced courses in Relativity, Astrophysics and Quantum Mechanics and Nanotechnologies stimulate the understanding of new concepts and critical reflection on our (conventional) perception of reality; the projects put students in front of concrete problems that they can only solve as a team, and whose solution must be presented before the end of the School.

High school students (with priority given to the 11th grade).

In previous editions we have welcomed students from all over the country (mainland and islands), from Portuguese-speaking African countries, Macao, Galicia and Brazil. This year we are encouraging students from Portuguese communities abroad to take part.

The aim is for them to develop a taste for maths and practise it through problem-solving and computational experimentation.

The topics are taught in mini-courses specially prepared and adapted to their knowledge, useful for those wishing to pursue higher studies in exact sciences (maths, physics), engineering, economics, natural sciences (biology), etc.

The school is aimed at students who are currently attending High School (10th to 12th grade).
