Masters Degree in Applications in Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology
The M:ABBS focuses on further understanding the various relevant dimensions within biotechnology and synthetic biology and their scientific and technological application, in order to meet current societal challenges and promote greater sustainability.
Thus, this cycle of studies provides practical and theoretical knowledge in applying core chemistry and biology concepts to explain and describe essential processes in biotechnology and synthetic biology, aiming to integrate the knowledge obtained into a comprehensive perspective of the applications of chemistry and biology in diverse areas of biotechnology intervention. It also aims to:
• provide basic laboratory skills in biotechnology and synthetic biology;
• promote communication and efficient team collaboration; train the preparationnd presentation of scientific-technological communications adapted to the specific characteristics of each audience;
• develop organisational skills according to a work plan as well as the ability to collect and critically analyse scientific-technological information;
• raise awareness of the ethical aspects of working in biotechnology and synthetic biology and the need for lifelong updating and training.
Job Opportunities
Students will be able to work in biotechnology companies in the following fields:
• pharmaceutical industry
• food industry
• chemical industry
• agriculture and livestock
• the environment
• health, either in top positions or as entrepreneurs
Students will also be able to access third cycle courses (doctorates) or conduct activities within research projects.
